C-Roads

C-Roads is a project promoted by the European Commission within the framework of the CEF (connecting Europe facility) programme. It counts with 16 European Member States working on the deployment of C-ITS ( Cooperative -Intelligent  Transport Systems) interoperable and harmonized in Europe. These services cover a group of technologies and applications that enable the exchange of data effectively between components and actors of the transport system through wireless communication technologies.

The platform follows an approach in which, based on national pilots, tests will be carried out in order to allow transnational interoperability. Therefore, C-roads guarantees the European cohesion of the deployment of C-ITS in the European Union in the long term.

C-ROADS Spain counts with a budget of 17,9 million euros and 5 sub-pilots:

DGT 3.0: In this pilot it will be analyzed the deployment of  C-ITS  services through an Internet of Things (IoT) platform. This will allow the interconnection of the main actors involved in the ecosystem of traffic and mobility. One of its main advantages is that it covers the national territory.

SISCOGA Extended: This pilot will use a hybrid architecture that includes ITS-G5, LTE and LTE/V communication technologies. It will span 160 Km (130Km interurban and 30Km urban roads)

Madrid: This pilot takes place in Madrid Calle 30. It will include a solution to inform users about parking lots in the city and a management system capable of connecting to different sources of information to process it and that is available  via mobile applications.

Cantabrian Corridor. This project is located mainly along the highway A8-E70 that connects the provinces of the Northern zone of Spain (Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and Basque Country)

Mediterranean Corridor. The pilot will run along the Mediterranean corridor in several sections of the AP-7 motorway. Its main interest is to check the C-its services on toll motorways. (DGT 3.0, SISCOGA Extended, Madrid Calle 30, Cantabrian and Mediterranean).

•SISCOGA Extended. Este piloto usará una arquitectura híbrida que incluye tecnología de comunicaciones ITS-G5, LTE y LTE/V. Se desarrolla en 130 kilómetros de vías interurbanas y 30 km de vías urbanas.

•Madrid. Este piloto se desarrolla en Madrid Calle 30. Incluirá una solución para informar a usuarios de un aparcamiento en la ciudad y un sistema de gestión capaz de conectarse a diferentes fuentes de información para procesarla y que esté disponible para los usuarios de aplicaciones móviles.

•Corredor Cantábrico. Este proyecto se localiza principalmente a lo largo de la autopista A-8/E-70 que conecta las provincias de la zona norte de España (Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria y País Vasco)

•Corredor Mediterráneo. El piloto se ejecutará a lo largo del Corredor Mediterráneo en varias secciones de la autopista AP-7. Su principal interés es comprobar los servicios C-ITS en autopistas de peaje.
